Detail / One of Other Shores of Yours

One of Other Shores of Yours consists of a wide white-line painted with chalk on the floor, crossing from one end to the another, chalk-painted timbers and thin fabric attached in between the pillars. This venue is a gallery which was originally an old traditional-style house and the surface of the room is covered with ash from the fireplace of the downstairs.

This work was made on the occasion to do a short-term artist-in-residency at mountainous area in Niigata, Japan. I created an installation as the situation to see a borderline and the other side from the experience of my first visit to this region.

I happened to see many roads blocked temporally by heavy snow fall which is specific this region. It indicated the area allowed for humans to live and the other side which is not allowed to enter. It also made me notice my position as a stranger looking over the outlook of the locals and their privates which were not allowed to see.
